Rev. John Christopher Power was born in Nova Scotia, Canada on September 30th, 1951. As a young man, he pursued a career in radio broadcasting and quickly became a highly successful and well-known radio announcer. In 1972 he married Claudette Theriault, and together they had one son and four daughters. Together with his wife and children, he lived in Victoria British Columbia, Minneapolis Minnesota, Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Dalmeny Saskatchewan, and Woodstock Ontario.

In 1973, after a near-fatal rock climbing accident, he came face to face with the frailty of life and his need of savior. Turning his back on the life he was living, he pursued Jesus Christ with a radical passion and enthusiasm that few had ever seen before. He served God in full time ministry as a pastor and traveled the world as a preacher, reaching thousands of people with the good news of the Gospel. His ministry has personally impacted the lives of countless numbers of people across the globe.

To many, John Power was one of the most amazing men that ever lived. He was unique, and he was special. In many ways, he was not like any other man, father, or pastor of his time. He was in a category all his own.

He liked to say that "radical" was his middle name, and he truly was a radical. He did not like to be called an "average Canadian" or an average anything, because he wasn't content to just do things the way they've always been done. He motivated people in their creativity, passion, and faith, and challenged people in the way they viewed the world.

John Power saw good things in people that they didn't even know were there. He would see hope in the darkest of circumstances and see potential in those who had given up on themselves and given up on life. He saw greatness where many only saw failure. He wasn't afraid to walk up to the most hardened, dark, lost soul and put his arms around them and say, "I see you becoming something wonderful" and most of the time they did!

John Power was as good a father as any man could ever be. He always had the best intentions, and he was motivated by an overwhelming desire to do what was right in the eyes of God.

John Power loved to laugh, and he loved to make others laugh. At home he was always laughing with his family. There was never a dull moment. He was always telling jokes, and it seemed as if he had millions of them. He would joke around when he was preaching, eating, or when he was holding a business meeting. When he was in the most solemn of situations, he would come out of nowhere with the most hilarious and unexpected something that would just have everyone, as he used to say "in stitches."

John Power was a real practical joker. He encouraged his staff at the church to joke around with each other. He is remembered for coming up with elaborate practical jokes to play on friends and family.

John Power had a real love of music. He always had music playing around the house and in the car. He liked pretty much every style of music. He wrote several songs of his own, and he liked to play the harmonica, tambourine, and piano.

He loved technology, and he always had the latest electronic gadget before anyone else did, and he had his own web site before it was popular to have a web site. He loved to play his flight simulator on the computer as well.

John Power loved people. To many people around the world, he was a true friend. It didn’t matter who you were, he just loved people. He loved to watch people, talk to people, and connect with people. He would start conversations with complete strangers, and knew how to find something in common with them and befriend them, and make them feel loved. He liked to challenge people to move up to another level.

John Power was a real family man. He would drop everything to spend time with his children. He always showed affection to his wife Claudette and his children. John always taught people that family comes first.

John Power loved The Lord Jesus with all his heart. He would always have a personal time of prayer at home with his wife and children, and there were family devotions every morning. As a pastor, he always encouraged people in the things of God, and taught people to live a life that was pleasing to God.

John Power loved his call to the ministry. He worked very hard at the work that God had called him to. He founded a Bible training centre, wrote a book, traveled the world preaching the Gospel to thousands, and he produced countless numbers of materials on cassette, CD, and DVD.

In many ways, John Power laid down his life for the ministry of a Pastor. In Through many tests and trials, he remained strong in spirit, never wavering. He never lost faith, but it was not an easy burden for him to bear. He gave so much of himself and he did it willingly because he really truly loved each and every person that he minister to. As a pastor, he truly loved his church family.

On December 6th, 2008, John Power suddenly and unexpectedly passed from this life into the next, without any apparent sickness, pain or struggle. His sudden passing came as a shock and a surprise, because he had not finished his work and he still had more races to run. It was far too early a time for him to leave us.

The legacy of John C. Power lives on in our fondest memories and in our hearts. We should never forget what it was like to know him and be around him, and as the months and years go by, we can continue to draw from the wisdom and council that he imparted to each of us.

If we would all take time to reflect on the impact that John Power has made on our lives, and truly appreciate how he was a gift from God to us and just how special and unique a person he was, we would be honored to have been partakers of his ministry. If you ever knew him, ever shook his hand, said hi to him, or even just talked to him for five minutes, you should consider it a privilege to have known such an amazing, precious, and wonderful man.
